Atiku’s secret meeting with serving Generals worries political leaders

The secret meeting presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had with some serving Generals of the Nigerian Army on Thursday has continued to be a source of worry for political leaders in the country.

The meeting, WesternPost learnt was held in a secret location in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Details of the meeting were not clear as at last night, but security sources said it may not be unconnected with the upcoming elections.

The PDP candidate who is already 76 years old, according to our sources, is very desperate to become President of Nigeria and sees this coming presidential election as his last chance after which age will automatically take him out of reckoning and ineligible in future election.

The former Vice President of Nigeria is not sparring any effort to make sure he gets the country’s number one job this time having made five previous failed bids at the presidency since 1992.

To realise his lifelong ambition to be President, Atiku is said to be putting pressure and sending emissaries among notable Northern Emirs and influential Muslim clerics to Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to step down for him in other to bolster his chance at the polls.

Atiku himself told BBC Hausa Service last week that he was in talks with Mr. Peter Obi, his 2019 running mate and now Labour Party presidential candidate and Dr. Kwankwaso on how the two men can step down for him.

The three men were in the same PDP in 2019 when Atiku ran against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Trust TV on Thursday, Alhaji Buba Galadima, an Atiku spokesman in 2019, who is now a chieftain of NNPP revealed how Atiku is allegedly spending billions of Naira to get the support of Emirs and religious leaders from the north to prevail on Kwankwaso.

Atiku’s meeting with serving Generals two weeks before February 25 presidential election is already raising suspicions within the security circle and making political actors to be at alert to unravel the intention behind such clandestine move by a candidate in the coming presidential election especially at a time there is palpable tension in the country as a result of twin problems of fuel and new Naira notes scarcity that brought untold socio-economic pains on the masses.
